Difference between Keurig K200 vs K250 coffee makers

Keurig is one of the leading manufacturers of single-serve coffee makers with more than 50 models available for sale. Sometimes, this can be hard to tell some models apart because their difference is really small like in case with Keurig K200 vs K250.

Both being best-sellers in the brand collection of pod-type machines, these devices have much in common, and at first glance, they look identical. Lots of customers are confused about the difference between the two.

Is this a smart scheme of the manufacturer to release a new coffee maker with almost the same features as its predecessor has? Let’s compare these appliances and find the truth.

The K200 is a compact machine, which is nice for small kitchens with limited counter space. It is available in multiple fun colors, so you can choose any shade to match your kitchen decor. If conservative black and white are your favorite colors, the K200 comes in these shades as well.

The machine has a plastic housing, but its design is elegant. Located on the backside of the device, its water container holds 40 oz. of liquid, but most users find it too small. This amount is enough to make five 8 oz. coffee shots. The water tank can be removed for cleaning.

Again, Keurig uses minimalism and an easy-to-understand display in this appliance. On its top panel, there is a black and white LCD screen that is easy to operate and allows users to customize their coffee.

When its drip tray is in place, there is a 7’’ clearance between the dispensing spout and the plate. This height is enough to accommodate big travel mugs. The catch tray can also be removed for fast cleanup. With extra inches in height, you can place even a carafe underneath the spout.

The K200 recognizes coffee capsules of 75 brands. It accepts K-mug and K-carafe pods to brew coffee in larger quantities. It can also make beverages using ground coffee.

The device takes less than a minute to heat up water and guarantees a quick performance. Aside from coffee, you can also brew tea and hot cacao.

Pros

  • A compact design
  • Compatible with coffee pods from other brands
  • Customization of drinks
  • Works with both capsules and ground coffee
  • Easy to use with one button start
  • Less expensive than the K250
  • Delivers hot water
  • The water container features a water-level window
  • Comes in a variety of rainbow colors
  • Auto-off control

Cons

  • Has no water temperature control
  • Includes no reusable filters for ground coffee

When Keurig launched the K250 into production, it was reasonable to expect an upgraded version of the K200 equipped with new features and with improved functions. Adding some extra money to the price of the K200, you will get a couple of additional features.

This model is also available in an assortment of cheerful colors. Its design is the same as in the K200. The device is made of plastic, but it looks and feels very steady.

The capacity of the water reservoir is similar to the K200: 40 oz.

The appliance can accommodate cups of various sizes, and when you detach its drip tray, you can place even a carafe.

This K250 also makes coffee brewing a breeze. Its responsive LCD touch screen and a start button allow you to customize your drinks and get various brew volumes.

Pros

  • Auto-off function
  • A sleek and slim design
  • Available in assorted bright colors
  • Works with both coffee pods and ground coffee
  • Delivers hot water to make other drinks
  • Comes with a descaling solution and an additional water filter
  • Uses the technology that recognizes the inserted capsule

Cons

  • Has a higher price tag than the K200
  • The water temperature cannot be programmed

So, What Is the Difference Between These Models?

Both models are completely identical, except that the K250 comes with more accessories than the K200. The box with a newer model comes with:

  • 1 handle for a water filter;
  • 2 charcoal water filters;
  • 1 bottle of a descaling agent;
  • 4 K-cup pods.

The K200 includes only one water filter.

The appearance and performance of the two machines are the same.

Is the Keurig K200 or K250 Right for You?

Keurig K250 coffee maker design

That fact is obvious: the main difference between these appliances lies in their accessories and price. Both models are durable and efficient and brew amazing coffee. Their operation is easy and fast, and it is highly evaluated by users.

If you are not on a budget and want to have the complete set, opt for the K250. If you prefer buying an additional water filter and descaling liquid on your own, choose the cheaper K200. There is no point in paying more money for the accessories that you can buy separately (if necessary).

FYI: Keurig discontinued the production of the K250, and it is only available from online suppliers that still have this model in stock.

Regardless of what device you choose, you will get an excellent coffee maker in any case.
